What is Pedra Branca?

A city at your feet

Imagine a city with broad streets and sidewalks, where people have priority over cars and everything is near: work, school, university, trade and leisure. Bicycles reign supreme. Familiarity brings back the time when everything could be lived in one place. Many people already enjoy this way of living. This place is not a dream! It is real: come and find out why so many people are proudly saying: I am Pedra Branca.

History

The project for Cidade Univeristária Pedra Branca (Portuguese for “Pedra Branca University City”) started in 1997. At that time, the piece of land that now is one of the state’s largest and best developed real estate undertakings still belonged to a cattle ranch. The urban growth in the metropolitan area of Florianópolis spurred the project of urbanizing the 600+ acres available. Thus, a new concept in real estate was born in Palhoça.

The Unisul university, through partnership with Pedra Branca, founded the Pedra Branca Campus, on a lot granted by the neighborhood, becoming the anchor for the enterprise.

For more than ten years, Cidade Universitária Pedra Branca has been defending the concept of sustainable urbanism: concern with pedestrians, sustainable buildings, quality of public spaces, as well as high-performance infra-structure designed for medical and technological facilities.
Silvia Lenzi, architect and consultant for Pedra Branca, sums it up: “The city, located on the coastal area of the Santa Catarina state, where population density is the greatest, has great potential to become an urban center of the first magnitude.”
