Exploring new urbanism and creating a new centrality
After starting the first phase of the Pedra Branca neighborhood in 1999 with a residential subdivision, in 2005 the developers sought a more comprehensive vision, inspired by the book Place Making by Charles C. Bohl. They participated in events in Brazil and abroad, delving deeper into the "New Urbanism" to solve urban challenges. With the support of the DPZ Latin America office, a reference in the movement, Pedra Branca adopted the idea of a city where people can live, work, study and have fun, committing to being a pioneer in urban sustainability in Brazil.

The process of creating the Pedra Branca City Masterplan
The project was created for a new hub in Greater Florianópolis, involving 11 architectural firms, consultants such as Jaime Lerner and laboratories from UFSC. A pioneer in Latin America, the project is a sustainable landmark, awarded at the Buenos Aires Biennial (2007), by the Financial Times (2008) and by the Bill Clinton Foundation's Positive Climate program (2009). Jan Gehl's consultancy, focused on the quality of public spaces, consolidated his ideal of civic coexistence.

250 hectares with a total of 2300 lots
Our historic moments and future dreams
Our dream has always been to build a city for people, not just a place to live, but a place to live and socialize. We wanted to provide life within walking distance, where people could live, work, study and have fun in the same place. When we learned about the principles of New Urbanism in 2005, we were fascinated, because this concept represented exactly what we believed in. We improved our projects and incorporated the principles of sustainability. Learn about this story rich in people and moments.
